A tooth infection is no walk in the park. They can be irritating and painful. How do you know if you have one?

  • Sharp, throbbing, pain on or around a tooth. The pain can be constant, come and go, or only occur on chewing.
  • Swelling around or beside the affected tooth
  • Fever or headache
  • Bad taste in mouth
  • Pain upon opening
  • Earache with any above symptoms

A tooth infection or a tooth abscess can affect anyone. The common causes of tooth infection are:

  • Tooth decay
  • tooth fracture
  • An old or damaged filling
  • Repetitive motions, such as chewing gum or grinding teeth
  • infected gums

What To Do If You Have A Tooth Infection:

  • Get in to see your dentist immediately. Tooth infections that are left untreated can spread through the rest of your body.
  • Rinse with salt water (1 teaspoon in a glass of water) until you can get in to see your dentist
  • Advil is best known in the dental world for its efficacy for tooth pain. It will not solve the problem but it will help relieve pain temporarily until you can see a dentist.
